2008 ARRL Field Day

06/30/2008 | WA1MA Our FD idea kind of fell apart here this year after my father became an SK before my eyes suddenly on 31 May. On the 23rd of June I got hit in the back at a stop light. So, we just operated from home as 1D and put in a few hours for 33 QSO's on 40 CW and one on 20m CW Saturday night leading to the big-time score of 128 points. The most distant station was WA7LNW in Utah (or as they say Utah !) which I remember as being a "fun" state trying to work for WAS. I found that 40 was very active; on the other hand 20m was poor here on eastern Cape Cod from early on Saturday evening. N1MM Logger worked flawlessly as did the Microkeyer when controlled by N1MM. Microham hand keying still remains buggy through the MK but not the FT-1000MP MK V, with extra dots even though my paddles are nothing fancy, just the Benchers. The Microkeyer keypad and N1MM controlled CW are fine. The antennas were a Force 12 EF-140S at 40 feet and a Force 12 XR-5 at 25 feet. That's not me on the "midget tower" -- WV1K
