2008 ARRL Field Day

06/30/2008 | WO4R The Fluvanna County ARES group decided to try a small informal Field Day this year hosted by WO4R on the family farm in Palmyra, Va. Since this was a private site, no attempt was made to inform the public. However, two public officials did attend so we garnered a few extra points. Although severe thunderstorms were forecast, we were favored with good though hot weather and static was not as bad as expected. Band conditions were also better than expected, yielding Alaska and Hawaii much earlier than forecast while we had to work a little harder for some of the Canadian provinces. Emphasis was on keeping things simple and friendly so competition was not our goal. Even so, we were quite happy with our modest results and everyone left saying they were already looking forward to and planning for next year. Twelve regulars plus several visitors participated. Thanks to all the courteous operators out there for your patience and kind words.
