06/30/2008 | K6WSC Vince, WB6UIR, and I have shared Field Day Class 1D operating for the past several years as KQ6RV. This year, to add to the excitement of Field Day, Vince signed up to take the Amateur Extra examination Saturday morning. I agreed to help him study for the exam. After pulling an all-nighter, Vince got one hour of sleep before the exam. I got only a few more. Amazingly, Vince managed to ace the examination. Credit also goes to HamTestOnline.

Field Day band conditions seemed to be better than last year. Needless to say, the lack of sleep Friday night added the element of fatigue present in emergency communications to Class 1D operation. Next year, we are planning Class 1E.
