2008 ARRL Field Day

07/01/2008 | N5EOC Southlake, Texas. The Northeast Tarrant Radio Club again set up field day operations in the Southlake Town Square Gazebo with the light rain keeping us cool. With one eye on weather radar and the other on the radios we operated until about 6 pm local. For the next 3 hours or so we watched the lighting storm and listened to the rain and gave the generator a rest.
Finally the rain stopped and we were back to operating our 2A equipment. The public location provided an opportunity for many visitors, some hams that had not operated recently, parents trying to explain what we were doing to their kids, and local elected government officals.
Some operators have been here for all field days. This year saw several new operators, some with new licenses and some coming out of retirement.
Digital was tried for the first time this year and a few contacts made. -- KD5UJL
