07/01/2008 | KJ4ELF We just formed our own club here in Millington, the Tennessee Signal Group. The current membership is all Tennessee State Guard members as well as Ham Radio operators. We decided to form our own club to advance Ham and military communications, so what a better way than to participate in Field Day. We ran our operations out of the 1st Regiment's Tactical Operations Center.

As there are currently only about 5 of us in the group, only 2 of us were able to work the event the full time. We did have one of our other members there to support us during setup and the first couple of operating hours.

Matt Burgess, WA4JDY ran the CW station and made an outstanding 313 contacts, including 1 DX contact!! I, Wayne Sykes, KB4ZLE, ran the phone station and made 87 contacts!! That gave us a total of 400 contacts!!!! We couldn't believe our luck!!!

It was a fun, not to mention exhausting time. We look forward to doing this again. Hopefully, we will have more operators and stations in the future.
