2008 ARRL Field Day
Many thanks go to Dewey Cook, KJ4BYU our county Emergency Manager and Eddie Walker (thanks for visiting with us also) mayor of Casar for helping us locate the location. The entire event was full of fun, fellowship and good ole ham radio operating.
Thank you to Johnny Hutchins (County Commissioner) and Don Melton (Water Commissioner) for visitng with us. Our site was also visited by Cable 33 news reporter Marti Glazer and Shelby Star reporter Cherish Wilson and photographer Britanny Randolph. To view the Star's story go to http://www.shelbystar.com/news/radio_32127___article.html/ares_emergency.html
We operated 2A (Icom 746 with G5RV) and (Kenwood TS570D with 3 element beam at 30ft.) - We had a GOTA station and a 6 meter station. Our power source was a Honda 2200 Watt generator and we had on standby a 12.5 kW Generator provided by Emergency Management.
We can't thank the setup and tear down crew enough for their help. Without these folks it wouldn't have been possible. Thanks to everyone who planned and also provided the good food.
We contacted over 700 stations and I would speculate that after gathering all the information and our bonus points together that we will probably have gained a couple of thousand points. We'll see.
Meanwhile enjoy photos from our event. Notice the guys pulling the tower up. Thanks fellas! Thanks to all the operators of the radios!
