07/04/2008 | WA5ZNU We found ourselves on a family vacation once again, this year driving through coastal Oregon.
Along the way we stopped by the Coos County Hams FD site and said hello to Dell, the FD captain, but they seemed like they had enough operators already. So we stopped in Coos Bay for three days and operated on a city pier on the Rogue River, near our hotel. Equipment was an Elecraft K2, Buddipole vertical on 40m and 20m, and a 1A solar panel for 100% emergency power. K6YUU helped and made a QSO, and we packed it in, copying the K6KPH bulletin the next morning as we headed to our next coastal destination. We enjoyed chatting with the folks who stopped by and read the ARRL brochure. It looks like with the school holiday dates, we'll be making a family vacation on FD an annual event! -- WA5ZNU
