2008 ARRL Field Day
Skyway Farm is rumored to be the second highest point in eastern Missouri, at 1000 feet. We were joined by the local school club KID, who operated 40 meters.
Our second op, Ed, KCKG operated 20 into the wee hours of the night. After KID, signed off AND after the wind and rain storm late Saturday p.m, BUT not before our BBQ feast I manned the Boat Anchors at the forty meter station.
We managed to work 15 and 10 for a brief period on Sunday. Due to a pulley jam, we were unable to work 75 and 160, (we could not afford the lost contacts to dismantle the ladder / fiberglass pole mast and unjam the pulley).
Our most interesting observation was early Sunday when we had both local skip and continental skip on 40. Local skip was not just once but five times. Nearest local station worked was just 11 miles down the road, as the crow flies; our farthest local skip was under 40 miles away, meanwhile we continued our pile up with stations in the northeast and all points southeast. I am guessing 40 meters was in its non-sunspot prime -- and was the place to be. -- K
