07/05/2008 | W4LMA The Lockheed employees association Amateur radio club in Marietta, GA is a small club of 11 members.That we are this large is a testament to Field Day. This is the one activity that brings us membership, as 5 years ago, the membership was declining steadily due to retirements. We hit a low of 5 members, but with Field Day, we have steadily increased, and at 2008 Field day, we had 6 members participate and 17 visitors.

I finally figured out why we don't rack up too many contacts. With all the visitors we have, we spend a lot of time getting them to operate for a bit and spend a lot of time telling those that are not radio operators about amateur radio.

When the visitors finally left, we started doing pretty well. Our station is like a GOTA station, but without the main station. -- AB0NG
