07/07/2008 | K5BED The Bedford Amateur Radio Club participated in its first Field Day this year at the Bedford Boys Ranch lake (Bedford Texas) in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. BARC is a relatively new club that has very close ties to local public safety organizations. It has been very successful in recruiting new hams from other community volunteer groups. This includes Bedford CERT, Citizens Police Academy and Citizens Fire Academy. The Bedford club has a very high percentage of active members many of which are new hams who got their first taste of working the HF bands during Field Day. Although the Field Day activities were cut short due to weather, everyone involved had a great time while learning some valuable skills. -- AD5KZ
