2008 ARRL Field Day

07/13/2008 | K8SCH Field Day 2008 came and went very quickly this year, and I want to personally thank everyone in our group who helped make it happen.

We operated as 2A from Mitchell Memorial Forest in Cleves, OH. We also had a 6 meter station and a GOTA station.

We began setting up shelters on Friday afternoon, with most of the setup beginning Saturday morning.

Thanks to our Education Committee Chairman, Gary, KB8MYC, for the idea of teaching our student how to build a 2 meter J-pole.

We had a great dinner at 6pm on Saturday, and that was followed up by a midnight steak dinner which was complete with sauteed onions, mushrooms, and shrimp. What a feast that was!

Thanks to everyone who came out and made it all possible. We made about 360 contacts on CW, approximately 840 on SSB, 15 on 6 meters and 29 on the GOTA station.

We had a tremendous storm come through the area Saturday afternoon that produced sideways rain for about an hour or so. We were literally hanging onto the frames of the shelters so they wouldn't take to the sky!

We are looking forward to next year and maybe some better weather!

73's,
OH-KY-IN Amateur Radio Society -- KA3MTT
