07/29/2008 | W4SCA Scenic City Amateur Radio Society organized in early 2004 and participated in our fifth field day this year. For the fourth year in a row, we operated QRP and 100% solar powered. After stepping out and trying solar in 2005, we were hooked. Imagine not hearing the drone of a gas generator for 24 hours! The solar power array was provided by our friends at Big Frog Mountain, Inc.

SCARS operated from Signal Mountain, TN, which is just north of Chattanooga. We were the grateful guests of Shackleford Ridge Park, a 168 acre tract of land which is owned by Hamilton County. The soccer association's shelter is the nicest facility of its type in the area. The trees surrounding the shelter were perfect for supporting our wire antennas. We are already planning for Field Day 2009.
