2008 ARRL Field Day

08/01/2008 | K4CFC Greetings from Wilmington, NC, where the Azalea Coast ARC operated K4CFC for the first time. K4CFC is the new station inside the Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross, and operated in 2008 FD as a Class F station. Paul Magnabosco, AD4HZ, supervised the design and building of a new EmCOMM center inside the Red Cross chapter, with up to ten radio positions, and amateur capability being four of the ten positions (the other positions are SHARE and other frequencies assigned to Red Cross).

Field Day permitted 28 local participating hams to run the gamut of K4CFC's new antenna farm, which consists of two B&W BWSD-90 folded dipoles for NVIS EmCOMM, an Alpha-Delta DX-CC, and verticals for 6M, 2M, 1.25 M and 70 CM.

Shown in the photo are New Hanover Co. ARES EC David Williams, KF4CQS, on the left, and Vince Palazzo, K2GDD, on the right. They are sitting in front of two specially designed EmCOMM transport boxes for HF equipment to be transported into the Field. -- N2COP
