2008 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/16/2008 | K6WSC I have operated several HF contests recently, and thought I would give the VHF QSO Party a whirl. My wife and I assembled an M2 three element 6 meter beam Friday night, and mounted it Saturday morning. All weekend, I listened and called CQ on CW at 50.09 and on SSB at 50.125. I heard two phonetic letters on 50.125 and no other signals, until Sunday afternoon, a station calling CQ un-squelched my receiver. We exchanged grid squares and had an enjoyable QSO. The other station, W6IPT, is two miles away. I really tried to make a go of the contest on 6 meters. I did learn however why 6 meters is called the magic band. Its magic if you get a contact. (OK we are at the bottom of the sun spot cycle). I will be back next time to sample the magic band. 73, Bill -- K6WSC
