2008 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/16/2008 | K2QO/R This was a very challenging contest for many reasons. We found no tropo, e-skip or other enhancement to lend a hand. The day before the contest SpaceWeather.com suggested that we'd have some action due to a good solar wind, but nothing materialized. Another rub was some very low activity.

On the plus side, we found a new operating location that was simply super.

The new rover setup in the new Vue sports a wire kitchen on which virtually all in-vehicle gear is securely attached. This means that all connections and switching can be checked prior to installation.

My September scores have been going down three years running despite better gear, setup, and operating strategies so let's make a big push for some serious activity in January for the VHF Sweeps!

Lastly, thanks to the WNYDXA members who showed up in force to give us Qs at our last grid with everything from HTs in the driveway to 756 Pros pumping 6M RF into 80M Windoms. These guys are on the verge of getting seriously into VHF.
