2008 ARRL November Sweepstakes (Phone)

11/17/2008 | WA7U Todd, WA7U, spent the summer putting up an 80 foot tower and a 'shorty-forty' Yagi to compliment his TH-7 tri-bander already on a second tower. We decided to test the new antenna farm out with a multi-one effort in Sweepstakes. Fred, KE7X, lead the way by showing us how to dig out the weak signals on a very crowded 20 meter band. Gene, KB7Q, earned the nickname 'rate-killer' for his attempts to run on 75 and 15 meters. Todd, WA7U, really settled in to contesting and was responsible for our best hour overall. Go team!

We used a complete set of .wav files with N1MM logger so we seldom had to actually key the microphone and talk. Sweet!

WY was the last section for our sweep, but PR wasn't easy to find either this year. We were tickled to hand out the Montana section to all comers.

All the antenna switching was manual and while we did avoid 'hot switching' the SB220 amp, we have work to do to get things automated over the winter.
