2008 ARRL 160 Meter Contest

12/07/2008 | WD5BJT My log shows 155 Q's in casual operating this year. Conditions on the Mississippi Gulf Coast were good this weekend. Power line noise did plague me at times, so a call to the local electric power company is in order.

Working off and on, with the assistance of a chain saw, and a large cane knife, it took me a year and a half to cut a 300 foot path into the dense woods behind my home. A 160 meter, half wave, end fed Hertz antenna, designed by Fred (W8FR), now hangs above this pathway. The antenna hears and plays well. Noise is about 2 "S-units" below that of my 160 meter half wave dipole.

Too bad my operating time was cut short because of that dreaded condition called "work".

73,
Charlie -- WD5BJT
