12/15/2008 | W1TR This was my first time operating the 10 meter contest with a tower and beam. It was quite a different experience using a Force 12 C4SXL on a 70 ft crank-up tower. There was also the matter of the IC-756p3 and the Emtron DX-3 amplifier! Fortunately the ice storm didn't hit here, but it started in Union, the next town to the north of Ashford, CT.

It seemed like EVERYONE was from Florida, but I worked a number of South American, Central American, and Caribbean stations, a few other states in the Southeast and along the eastern seaboard and gulf region, a couple of midwest stations, ground wave throughout the W1, W2, W3 call areas, and one lonely W6 in CA for a total of about 350 contacts and over 60 multipliers, half CW and half phone - Terry -- W1TR
