2009 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/02/2009 | K6WSC In anticipation of SKN, I tried unsuccessfully to find my straight key. While web surfing for a replacement, I found and fell in love with the beautiful LTA-CRVO straight key, handmade in Spain. I bought the last one.

SKN for me was everything it is written up to be: a chance to celebrate our CW heritage and enjoy good old-fashioned CW QSO fun. It is a marvelous way to stir the memory.

SKN combined several things for me. The last time I used a straight key was most likely in 1970. Although today I am an avid CW contester, the last time I had a CW rag chew was in 1991. I even reviewed the procedure signals used in rag chew QSOs, best described in the 1969 ARRL Operating Manual. I kept that, and not the straight key.

SKN did the trick. I will be back next year!

73,
Bill -- K6WSC
