2009 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/07/2009 | KI6NTB This was my very first SKN and it was a lot of fun! I only got my license in 2008, so I am very new to ham. However, I've set my goal to go on air with CW, using vintage gear that I love and SKN was a perfect event for this purpose. I made my very first CW QSO with N7EF, Don on Dec/5 ( to my surprise, he vdeo taped the QSO and sent it with QSL card!) and tried to get ready for SKN few weeks after that. Since it was busy 2 days with family, I couldn't spend too much time in front of the radio, but I made few contacts using " true novice set up " in 60/70's style. I used J-38 ( which was given by my XYL's friend who was a cw op during Korean war ) and Drake 2NT/2B. I only had few xtals and it was kind of tough, so I used Kenwood TS-520 as well.
Anyways, it was my first experience to hear full of straight key sound all over the band, and I felt like I was living in the time I wanted. I will defenitely come back next year! Thanks for WX7G, AL7GS/6, KE6OIO and W7JI for SKN QSOs. -- KI6NTB
