2009 ARRL January VHF Sweepstakes

01/22/2009 | KC0IYT/R I only put a minimal effort into this contest. I went roving to two grids in the Twin Cities, MN metro area on Sunday with ten bands: 6m thru 10ghz.

I started out with a failure of a battery booster (I run on marine batteries) and my straight key (which turned out to be a cable). For CW I was relegated to tapping the open end of an RCA connector on an exposed ground. I forgot a PTT cable for my 5760 transverter and had to borrow one from my 2m amp.

North of the 45th parallel, I was able to hand out a unique grid on 902-10ghz to a lot of folks (and one station reported I was a new grid for him on 222).

The neat QSO of the contest was working W0ZQ across town on 5760 and 10ghz using snow scatter, where we were unable to make the QSOs earlier when it wasn't snowing.
