2009 ARRL International DX Contest (CW)
vertcial with less than a quater of an acre to work with
and 100w, I think I did rather well. I am by no means a big
gun. I can't have a tower or an amp. It took me some work.
Part of contesting in my own experience is strategy.
I work the smaller stations first while I let the big gun
stations have their fun at the big time rare DX. After their
pile ups have withered down some (or a whole lot) I go ahead
and slip my call in there. I don't like spending too much time
on one station so I move around a bit. If I see a spot that I need
for a multiplier, while enroute if I come across a DX calling CQ,
I put out my call. Even if they are not a multiplier; they are a
Qso and possibly a multipler on another band if in the beginning stages of a contest. If I hear a weaker station calling CQ, I will
go ahead and give them a call. Many would not. I would not want
to pass up a potential multiplier. They are also trying as well.
We all know the rule about our contesters chair. The rule
that states that if you want chair time, you're going to work.
Merlin is 3 or 4 years old. He loves it when I am contesting but
I chose Single Op All Band Low Power or should I have chosen
Single Op Assisted even though Merlin didn't pull his own weight?
