03/13/2009 | EI4CF/P Having had a good time with the portable setup in the CW test two weeks ago, I decided to try again at the same location in the phone section. This time the wx was horrible, cold and windy, with thunder and lightning on the Sunday evening. This eventually made the decision for me to pack up and go home!!
The Icom7800 and the quad worked very well, and the sea-side venue in Fanore in County Clare on the west coast of Ireland enhanced the signals again. However, I could not get long runs going at all on my only band- 20m. Each spot was multilayered, with station on top of station on top of station. As the qsb changed each station seemed to get a few minues at the top of the pile and then dissappeared into the qrm again. Ce la vi on 20m I guess.
Anyway I still managed to improve on last years score and came home happy. -- EI4CF
