2009 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/15/2009 | KC2TA As my contesting time is usually limited due to other activities and a "honey do" list that is growing much too long (at least according to my XYL!!!) I try to make the most of my chances to operate. Activity (and my score) were up from January, but at about the same level as last June.

The opening on Six on Saturday netted a number of new ones, including the /VP9. The pileup there was pretty heavy, but did manage to work it after about 15 minutes. Think it might have been easier if I had gotten the 4 elements for six to the house and on the tower, but I goofed on the contest dates (thought it was June 20-21) so there was NO time to get the necessary work completed. So, the 3 element tribander and the tuner were in use again. Worked a few new ones in South Florida and a few on Two both Saturday and Sunday.

As is the norm, I've always been on the short end of any of the openings, getting in either just as they were starting and having to leave for some engagement or returning just as the band was changing and signals beginning to die out.

Looking forward to September with hopes of having the common sense to double check dates and make sure the antenna work gets done beforehand. -- KC2TA
