2009 ARRL June VHF Contest
This was the first contest with my newly rearranged shack and tiltover wooden tower. Antennas were the same as the last couple of contests- homebrew yagis for 6 (4el), 2 (10el on a warped wooden boom) and 70cm (15el). On the hamshack end of the cables was a new-to-me Icom 271H for 2m, and the old faithful 451A for 70cm and 551D for 6m, the latter with a cheap Radio Shack audio DSP that works pretty well, all things considered.
Conditions on the band were up-and-down, with several long gaps where I heard NOTHING, and other long stretches where I was busy elsewhere and missed some openings. I did catch a couple of periods of high activity, and I netted more contacts on 70cm than I thought I'd be able to with just 10W. That 15el Yagi really works well.
All in all a pretty fun time was had. I do have to put together a new 2m beam though; that twisted boom can't be doing me much good! -- WA4UF
