2009 ARRL Field Day

06/30/2009 | W6ICR Field Day in Imperial Valley was held inside the Imperial County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) as the outside temperature was 112 degrees. The Amateur Radio Station call sign in the EOC is W6ICR. The station consists of two ICOM 746 Pro's and two ICOM 910's. Hector WT6J/XE2K installed two dipole type antennas that worked great. Hector also "find tuned" our computer system for logging, cw, and RTTY. N7TY Bruce, acquired the supplies and assisted with setting up computers and equipment. KG6CXL Gabby, N6DNK/XE2DN Diana, and WD6BFD Sylvia, prepared the meals and snack for the group and took care of the "odds and ends". KI6YAA Larry and KI6ZXU set up the satellite station. We pitched our tents inside of the EOC and spent the night where the temperature remained at 77 degrees. We had approximately 20 participants including Tammy, who had passed her Technician Test earlier in the day. She seemed facinated by the satellite station. It was a great opportunity for local operators to become familiar with the equipment at the EOC as well as being a great time for socializing and making new friends. We are looking forward to next year's Field Day event. 73 de W6ICR and the Imperial Valley Amateur Radio group. -- WB6CGJ
