N6R operated Field Day 2009 from the grounds of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum, Simi Valley, CA, during ARRL's Field Day 2009. The N6R Special Events Station commemorates the lives of President Ronald & Nancy Reagan. N6R was operational from Friday, 26 June, until Sunday, 28 June 2009. This is the 9th year for the Ventura County Amateur Radio Society (VCARS) to operate Field Day from this site. Contacts were made as far West as Japan and as far to the East as Germany. 49 States, all but one Canadian Province, and some other countries were logged by N6R.
This year, VCARS was joined by the Simi Valley Amateur Radio Club (SSARC) and Ventura County Amateur Radio Club (VCARC). N6R operated as a 12-A entry from the Santa Barbara Section. Very large batteries were used for the stations so visitors and operators alike were not subjected to emergency generator noise. This year LED illumination was used for the most part so older propane and white gas lighting was not needed at night..
