2009 ARRL Field Day

07/02/2009 | W6TD For the 2009 Field Day the Southern Inyo ARA wanted to honor W6TD (SK) this Field Day so they called on the California County Expeditioners. For CQP these two are bitter rivals but came together to bury the hatchet and raise some antenna. Kurt, W6PH hosted the crew at his cabin on Lone Pine creek in the shadow of Mt. Whitney. The site was excellent and the boys had no trouble putting up several beams, dipoles and verticals and with the PC network up their 3A effort was ready. The team of W6PH, K6ZZ, K6VR, KI6VC, N6NKS, and AE6YM made short work of gallons of chili and beer, gobs of guacamole, piles of burgers and a 9 lb Pork Explosion breakfast roast, and some beer. Sometime during all this consuming they took the time to work 2200+ Qs. The Field Day dog team of Meko and Sparky made sure no chipmunks or squirrels came close and the supply of cheese was safe. One highlight was W6PHs quickie 6 meter setup on a bench under a tree that yielded close to 100 Qs. The other was KI6VCs homebrew, which vanished faster than a sunspot.
W6PHs only problem now is getting the League to agree that HomeBrew beer counts for bonus points since it was Non CommercialWellIt is!!! All rated this Field Day the best ever until next year. Now, to dig up that hatchet and get ready for CQP. -- KI6VC
