2009 ARRL Field Day
For the fifth year in a row K1UR plus K1NR operated Field Day mobile from K1UR's 1963 Land Rover. Each year we've operated from a different place. We had never operated from Maine before so that was this year's goal. We did some online research and found a number of interesting sites around Portsmouth harbor and ended up operating from Fort Foster, a nice local park in Kittery.
We arrived in the area early and checked out some other possible spots before settling in at our final destination. It was still early so we checked the bands and found 6m open so made some contacts there. After some lunch we hiked a bit of the park and did some geocaching while waiting for 2:00 p.m. to arrive.
We were on the air right at the start and found 6m on its way out but made a few contacts. Before the day was out we also operated 10, 15, 20, 40 and 75 and in the end made 111 contacts. The parked closed at 8:00 so as usual we only operated on Saturday.
Despite some flakey antenna problems we had our best score ever. Now to find a new place to operate next year... -- K1UR
