2009 ARRL Field Day

07/03/2009 | W4AN This year the Columbus (GA) ARC and the Russell County (AL) ARC pooled our resources and operated Field Day from Idle Hour Park in Phenix City, AL. We were W4AN 4A AL. One of our members, John, K4BAI, is the trustee of the W4AN call, currently assigned to the Southeast Contest Club. This call has a fascinating history, going all the way back to
around 1918 as 4AN. As usual, we had a great Field Day, in spite of the high heat and humidity. However, our operating location next to beautiful Moon Lake did have a good breeze for most of the weekend. We operated CW, SSB, digital, satellite, 6-meters, and GOTA. The GOTA station used the CARC call of W4CVY. When it was over, we racked up 1,064 CW contacts, 242 phone contacts (including satellite and GOTA), and 39 digital contacts. Many thanks to everyone who came out to help set up, operate, log, cook, run errands, and break everything down Sunday afternoon, just minutes before a thunderstorm rolled through the area. -- WB4GLJ
