2009 ARRL Field Day

07/05/2009 | K4KNS This year the Columbia County Amateur Radio Club held its Field Day event at the Fort Gordon, Points West, Recreation Area on Lake Thurmond in Columbia County, Georgia. This was the sixth year that we were able to hold our event there. Each year we try to out due the previous year in having fun. Rick Bernardi, K4UUG, was the Field Day committee chairman for the club this year and he and his wife Faye did a great job in organizing our activities. We started out on Friday evening setting up antennas and our stations. We operated 2A with a GOTA station on commercial power on CW, PSK31, and SSB. On Saturday morning we held a VE test session at 0900 and then had a small swap fest starting at 1000. Saturday afternoon the main event was a chicken BBQ with a variety of side dishes brought in by the ladies. Everyone had a great time and we made a few contacts to boot. Our club tries to emphasize fellowship and fun for the whole family. We had 58+ participants show up during the event. We would like to thank all the club members and visitors for making the 2009 ARRL Field Day a great event for the club.
