2009 ARRL Field Day

07/05/2009 | KK6I Generally each year for field day leads us to the Laguna Mountains for Field Day with the El Cajon Amateur Radio Club (WA6BGS). The club has an excellent membership and is well equip for field day with numerous beams and military surplus towers. This year we decided to do things a little different. I (KK6I), five fellow hams, and one newcomer decided to do FD at small cabin which is also located in the Laguna Mountains near Julian, CA at an elevation of approximately +5,000 feet, MSL. We managed to get our wire antennas in the trees with a wrist rocket, fishing line, and some brute force. Ultimately three antennas were erected, a G5RV, a homebrew extended double zepp, and a homebrew off-center fed dipole. We had a great time and some spectacular runs with 40, 20, and 15m. Our Saturday evening meal was the local favorite of carne asada on the barbeque complete with all the fixings! Everyone pitched in and helped out with the setup, operating, meals, and breakdown. The following photos depict a few of the special moments during this memorable Field Day 2009. -- KK6I
