I operated as 1B in a remote campsite at 6624' in the Los Padres National Forest overlooking California's San Joaquin Valley. Besides my usual G5RV for HF, I also used a 75/80 meter end fed dipole. This is the only time of year when I seriously operate CW and it was fun to log 120 CW contacts at a respectable speed. My CW copy included the ARRL Field Day Message. Six meters opened up and with a three element beam, I was able to work 37 SSB and CW stations. I managed to get out an NTS Radiogram to the SEC for those bonus points. However in spite of trying to work a QSO via a satellite which was coming in loud and clear with 5 watts on my HT and handheld beam, I could not get through. Overall I made 411 contacts which is the most I have done on my solo outings for Field Day. Next year my goal is 500 QSOs. Scott -- WA9STI
