2009 ARRL Field Day

07/13/2009 | KH6RS The Maui Amateur Radio Club participated in the 2009 Field Day event from Hookipa Beach again this year. It was the club's 52nd year from this location.

The winds were a little higher than normal, making antenna raising a little more difficult this year. One quarter wave verticals were raised on 40 and 80 meters and a tribander for 20, 15, and 10.

We used KH7CC's Orion and K6GSS's AL-80A to make 823 QSOs operating 1A in the Pacific section. We had a grand time and enjoyed making contacts with many stations. Late Saturday afternoon we worked Italy, Austria, and Africa as DX during the pileups. But then again, everything is DX from Hawaii!

We had a number of visitors from the US mainland stop by and we put them on the air. Late grayline propogation makes Hawaii very desirable and everyone wants the Pacific section. The pileups were a lot of fun to work.

Thanks for all the contacts, see you again next year! Aloha & 73.

Thanks to WH7NH for all the pictures -- N0DQD
