2009 ARRL Field Day

07/30/2009 | N7PI This year Pocatello Amateur Radio Club operated as N7PI from Stuart Park in Chubbuck, Idaho for Field Day. The location although not first on our list, turned out to be a good venue. We had a good turnout with 21 club members participate. We also had 4 youths participate and operate either the phone or digital station.
We used a solar panel charging a battery bank for the digital/CW station and a bicycle powered generator and a few energetic youths to charge the battery bank for the phone station. Our VHF station was generator powered.
We experimented in the tradition of Field Day and built an eighty meter vertical delta loop for use at night for the digital/CW station. We used a 10-15-20m triband yagi on a portable tower for our phone station.
We had a number of new hams participate this year operating the stations. We had several youngsters operate both the phone and digital/CW station this year, each making at least one contact.
We had a local TV station conduct a couple of onsite interviews at field day.

We copied the W1AW Field Day bulletin on PSK31.
Overall we had a good club event. No injuries and good fun for all.
The Saturday dinner was outstanding. -- K7QMM
