2009 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/14/2009 | K5LRW Our group was N5JDT, KB7SQF, KE5EGP, KE5ZGI, and me. N5JDT found an 8000 foot remote spot in Southern New Mexico within the Lincoln National Forest. Getting two travel trailers up the gravel road was a challenge. Getting them out on Sunday was even harder since we did it in the rain! Ever experience a thunderstorm at 8K' when you are the highest 'target'? It's very invigorating! After all that effort, unfortunately, we didn't have any openings. We made a few regional contacts with the farthest being on 6M & 2M to Albuquerque at just over 200 miles. N5JDT introduced us to JT6M and JT65 on 2M, 6M and 20M, which was a lot of fun! I nearly made my first JT6M contact on 6M, but it never materialized. Despite the dismal conditions, we're planning to try it again in June 2010. -- N3QD
