2009 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/16/2009 | N0JK Operated single op QRP Portable Sunday morning west of Lawrence, KS in EM28. Rain had been predicted, but the clouds parted and had a nice sunny morning. I did not have a 70 cm antenna along, but made 5 QSOs on 432 MHz by "loading up" the 2M yagi. Thus made 10 "bonus" QSO Points + 4 new grid mults on 432 MHz! No Es noted on 6M. Best 2M DX around 300 miles with 10 watts and a M2 2M7 yagi on 10 ft mast. W9FZ/r EN00 had a nice sig on 2m. I used part of the 6M 2 el yagi as a "dipole." Made 3 Qs and 3 Grids on 6 with it - em19, em28 & em29. No tropo, but relatively "good" regional signals on 2M to NE, IA, OK and the Wichita, KS area up to 300 miles. Even worked KF0M/m in EM17. -- N0JK
