2009 ARRL September VHF Contest
Great contest!
I had never operated in the Sept. contest before and little knew what to expect.
The weather was beautiful the whole weekend and even though I experienced no band enhancement from EM96, I did operate from atop a 3041 tower known as Fancy Gap Mountain in Carroll County, Virginia so contacts were plentiful and activity seemed considerable.
All antennas played well and all equipment performed flawlessly. No technical issues this trip.
I was pleased to make 8 Qs for 2 multipliers on 223 mc FM!
Thanks no doubt to the recent proliferation of 1 1/4 meter FM equipment. I have never experienced this much activity on 223 FM prior to this contest. I hope this is the beginning of good things to come for VHF/UHF contesters and everyone who enjoys this band as much as I do. By the way, wouldnt it be nice to see a manufacturer take an interest in producing commercially available 222 all mode equipment again? A contester could only dream
On that note, with the lack of any band openings, FM contacts accounted for a considerable amount of my Qs as a whole.
Thanks to all the FM ops who took time out to answer my calls.
I must also thank all the stations for all the contacts!
I also have to thank my good mother who came up the mountain with Melissa on Sunday bringing moral support, home cooked food, and helped with tare down. Thanks Mama!
135 Qs + 42 multipliers not only equal 7098 points but a whole lot of fun and satisfaction!
See you all in the next contest!
