2009 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/18/2009 | KB5YZG CQ Contest DE KB5YZG, EM85---
This was my fourth vhf contest from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. This time I operated from Haywood -Jackson Overlook (6020 Ft above sea level) at mile marker 430. Weather was perfect, 52 degrees and clear. My station was single op, dual band, low power using ICOM 910H, 11 element 2m yagi and 7 element 70cm yagi. I worked a total of 62 QSOs.

Had lots of radio fun, of course, and lots of visitors. I was visited by three deer, a raccoon; scores of curious tourists, some were hams who asked all of the right questions (and kinda wished they were doing this), and two South Carolina bear dogs who had been chasing bears through the mountains for two days, who befriended me for water and a long nap at my feet until they were claimed by their owner.
'73 See you on the next one. Bob -- KB5YZG
