2009 ARRL September VHF Contest

12/31/2009 | AB2YI/R After a brief try on 432 in the August UHF contest, I decided to put a 3 band limited rover together for September. I made a plywood bulkhead to fit my Matrix sunroof to hold a push-up mast with armstrong rotor. Topping at 13' when down, it goes up to 23' by pushing the base to a support at the roofline and inserting extensions to the inner mast. Cheap yagis on 432 and 2 meters, plus moxons on 6M and 2M are fed from FT-857 running off a 100 AH deep charge battery. It was enough to get on the air, and with some earlier scouting, I tried out a couple remote hilltops in FN11 and FN12. Anyway, it was fun. Next time it will be easier if I don't try to improve too much. -- AB2YI
