2009 ARRL November Sweepstakes (Phone)

My goal for 2009 was to exceed 200 QSOs and if possible make it to 250. This year proved to be my best Phone Sweepstakes yet, had 314 QSOs, worked 73 sections, and a claimed score of 45,844 points. Sections missed were: NLI, WPA, SC, VI, AR, NL, NT.
Not bad for an old geezer using an Icom IC-7000 at 100 watts and a ground mounted 14AVQ trap vertical for 40-20-15-10 meters.
The West Texas Section is a bit on the rare side and I was proud to provide W1AW with their first WTX in the 2009 Phone SS, I was their 765th contact. Several others also advised I was their first WTX. It appears though that we had more West Texas operations this year and that the activity level itself was a little higher.
Sweepstakes helps fill out needed states for a 5 band WAS and it certainly helped me this year, my biggest mistake was not having an 80 meter antenna in operation for the contest weekend. -- K5BZH
