11/25/2009 | WY7SS We put together a local team for our phone efforts. Dwayne and I were hoping to hit 1500 QSOs and we exceeded our goal once again and apparently in the process broke the existing WY record - needless to say we were pretty psyched!

One thing that really stood out to all of us, and to me in particular was the number of checks at '06, '06, '08 and '09. It was great to hear so many other hams that are newer on the air having fun during Sweepstakes. The other thing that really stood out to me was that I never got the feel of it being a knock-out feeling for Qs even in the midst of big pile-ups. It really seemed like everyone was having fun! I took time during a couple pileups to have a quick chat with some friends. When I got W7DK with a check of '16, I said - You MUST be a club station! And they said - Yup, oldest in the country! And my response was COOL - we're a new club station, glad you found us on the air! We both laughed and continued on our way.

We also got many comments once we gave our check of '09 - LOTS of "Welcome to the air" and "Welcome to sweeps" - talk about good fellowship in the midst of a contest! Of course, no one knew that there was nearly 70 years of total ham experience in the shack! But that's okay, the good feelings were abundant!

I think Dwayne and I made a good call when we named the club station after our favorite contest in our favorite state - WYoming 7 SweepStakes! I think after this month, you'll hear WY7SS on the air more!
