2009 ARRL November Sweepstakes (Phone)

11/29/2009 | KB0HH Our quest for the sweeps was to work'm all .. .. (you know .. .. earn the coffee cup) and increase our scores somewhat. We managed to increase the score a bit .. .. and got a sweep!! The last section was the NT and we worked him on 15 meters with a 3 element triband antenna and 40 watts!! We did some rig changeing to hear him better and forgot to turn on the amp!!! Mr. Gerb says we should all go to auctioneer school to learn to be more articulate!! He (the auctioneer) worked one contact .. VY1EI .. NT!!!! Thanks Eric for listening for a weak one!!

The operators were:
WD0GTY Jeff, KC5DPT Tad, KE5HQR Lisa, K5TDN Tyler, KB0HH Gary.

It was fun for the Bunkhouse HF ops to "holler" at Mr. Gerb to say they had worked a VHF op that said "hello".. Thanks for stopping by VHF guys!!!!

We had a good crew with some experienced ops and some newcomers to the contest arena. The most fun time was hearing the newcomers control a frequency and work rate!! Our score was somewhat better than last year. Our best antennas were a J-pole on 40 meters that starts at around 90 feet and ends at the top of a 192' tower .. .. a 3 element triband on 20 meters .. .. plus a 192' J-pole on 80 meters .. .. We used 1KW +- on all bands .. .. except for one contact .. .. We never operate QRP .. .. on purpose!!!

The cooks kept us happy with great meals .. ..KB0HH, Gary, the head cook.. .. with Miss June, KC0CEX, and Miss Lisa, KE5HQR, helping with the kitchen chores .. .. Miss Lisa turned into a contest animal working rate between meals!!

Pictures to follow .. .. -- KB0HH
