12/14/2009 | N5LUL This was a really interesting event this year. The band seemed dead for the 1st day, then... opened up full blast on Sunday afternoon. (I'm sure I didn't have the RF gain knob turned all the way to the left before then). Really suprising to hear all the activity on a "dead" band... so much for that! Have a friendly rivalry with one of the local's here in Amarillo... K5BZH (Jim Musgrove). He slaughtered me in the Nov. SS, but got him back this time. It's a challenge to play against someone you know... and fun too! We compare it to the tortise and the hare... the turtle (Jim) won most of the time... rabbit (me) got him this go-round... (carrot juice does wonders!). Will be back next year!
