2009 ARRL International EME Competition

12/26/2009 | SV3AAF First time I took part in the ARRL EME contest was in 1991 and also the 3 following years. After going QRT for several years, I participated again in '07/'08.
In '09 eme contest I was glad to see the revised contest rules focusing to unassisted only operation and simplifying the definitions as they used to be for the most years this contest exists. I felt this promotes EME advancement and devoted more time to the contest than I used to. On the other hand, I support the idea of a completely separate 1 or 2 weekend contest for the fellow EMEers operating with assistance.

Participated in this competition as single operator on 5 bands and completed 125 cw QSOs / 80 multipliers. QSOs were random apart from 1 sked qso. Stormy weather limited my operating time during the microwave section and during the last leg.
Traffic is rapidly increasing on 13cm which restricts the available time for the other microwave bands. Adding feed/band changes leads to time shortage, so perhaps operation on some microwave bands would be more efficient to expand to one more weekend.

Like fellow EMEers have mentioned before, I would like to stress that most of our bands above 1GHz are in danger. Spectrum selling is lucrative these days and authorities in various countries are interested in carrying out. Therefore our EME activity from vhf to shf should be advertised and promoted. The special global nature of EME traffic can secure we hold on to our bands for both terrestrial and space communications usage, worldwide.
