Straight Key Night 2010 Whitey K1VV ( Log is Attached)
Best CW Fist - Don W8LJ

There seemed to many more stations taking part in SKN 2010 than in past Straight Key Nights. Our vote for the best CW fist goes to Don W8LJ. We had 35 QSOs and worked one station twice on different bands, and two DX ... HP and DL. We did not S & P much. We called CQ most of the time. It was a fun time and we worked some great operators who could send near perfect CW with their hand keys. Only wish I could do the same. We use an electronic keyer most of the time and our only air time with a hand key is once a year during SKN. We had number of QSOs that lasted as long as 30 minutes with great rag chews. We tried 80, 40 and 20 CW and had QSOs on three bands.

Over the last year we have collected a number of keys and we used seven of them during SKN 2010. They were
from the WW II era and after, British Army, German Army, Russian Army, Japanese Navy, Russian Special Forces, British Lancaster Bomber, and British Spitfire Fighter. The Spitfire key was not actually used to key CW on a radio but was used to key the wing lights on and off on the Spitfire to signal to the ground, air fields or to other aircraft in the squadron. Most of the keys were easy enough to use except the Spitfire key due to the vertical position of the key. It is not a key you would want to use in long QSOs.

We made up QSL cards for each of the seven keys we used which will be used to reply to the applicable requests
to exchange cards.
