2010 ARRL Straight Key Night
Band condxs were not exactly stellar this year, but what was surprising to me was the number of stations on the air....Seemed like there were many more than last year; didn't call CQ more than twice during the whole event before snagging a contact, and sometimes, no CQ at all between contacts. I worked 21 stations in all and seemed like I was in QSO about 80% of the time I was at the radio - much higher than previous years. Stuck to 40 this time 100% and managed to work CA, OR, WA, AZ, NV, MO, and HI. Did not even hear any Alaska or East Coast stations this year - unusual.
Another interesting trend this year was that I worked 2 ops using ARC 5 transmitters (WWII surplus equipment!). Although the spectral purity was obviously lacking from these old rigs, it was still amazing to hear them humming along at 65+ year of age!
Here is the list of 21 stations worked at KW6G, all on 40-meters:
AC9T, KO6U, AA1UY, W7VXS, KH6ZM, AE6C, K7TFY, NC6V, W8KA, WA2KBZ, KH6KM, AE6QF, NA6DX, WB6SSW, WA0DIM, WA7WBY, N7AG, K7ZX, K8WB, K7ZQ, AA7FV.
Best Fist: Greg, K7ZX; Most Interesting QSO: Denny, AE6C
Bottom line: This event seems to be growing and that is a GOOD thing! Please keep up the good work by sponsoring such events, they are truly a pleasure to participate in. I am now motivated to pull out my vintage gear in storage and get it in shape for next year's event.
