2010 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/07/2010 | WD9EWK This was the first time I worked Straight Key Night. I wanted to try this via satellite, so I found a pass on AO-7 that I could get on. I used my portable all-mode satellite station: two Yaesu FT-817NDs, Elk Antennas handheld 2m/70cm log periodic antenna. I forgot to bring my straight key out to the park, so I disabled the keyer in my transmit radio and sent CW using the dit lever of my paddle. A straight key, sort of. I held the antenna skyward with my right hand, and sent CW using my left hand (and I'm *not* left-handed).

I worked two stations in CW on that pass - Glenn AA5PK in west Texas, and Kerry WC7V in Montana. Thanks for copying me from my portable satellite station, through the oldest active amateur satellite, on New Year's Day (UTC time). A fun time!
