2010 ARRL January VHF Sweepstakes

01/26/2010 | K1DS/R Best Rover run I have ever had, crossing 5 grids with 12 bands, and decent January weather here in the PA/NJ area. Packrats were out in force and everyone seemed to have more microwave gear working. The "Great White" rover van and gear worked without a hitch, except for an occassional power plug that rattled out of its socket. Had some strange propagation bouncing off a mountain ridge or was it a farm silo to work W3SZ off about 180 degrees with the 5, 10 and 24G dishes. The RF noise on Mt. Mitchell in NJ was troublesome for working the NE gang, but managed to catch many mults up there. I parked in front of a home to catch a few QSOs from FM30aj, and the owner came out claiming that I was blanking her TV as she tried to watch the football game on channel 2--stated she was the last person in NJ not to have cable TV!
Final score over 150K with more than 600 QSOs. Solo roving is demanding but rewarding. Glad also to work many other rovers enjoying the activity. Apologies to those who I missed in some of the pileups and while running off to the microwaves. 73, Rick -- K1DS
