JOTA 2007

10/22/2007 | W4S We used the special callsign W4S, "We're For Scouting". Approximately 50 cub and boy scouts attended Jamboree on the Air this year from the Coastal Empire Council, located in Savannah, Georgia. The event was held at the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum, in Pooler, Georgia. Hams from the Amateur Radio Club of Savannah and the Coastal Amateur Radio Society really stepped up to the plate and voluteered their time and expertise to make this a successful event.

We ran radios on 80, 40, 20, 17, 15, and 2 meters. Propogation was better than expected.

The weather was perfect. Temperatures topped out at about 80 degrees, with party cloudy skies. We were set up adjacent to a MIG-17 fighter aircraft. This is the first year we have held JOTA at the museum, and it is perfect for this type of event. A large number of scouts toured the fantastic exhibits inside the museum after completing their activities at the jamboree.

This is the third year we have had JOTA that was sponsored council wide, and involved more than just a couple of packs. We are looking forward to doing this again next year as this was a great event.
